About Richard Weir

I’m originally from Vancouver, B.C., now residing in lovely Oregon. I’ve been studying health-related topics for the past 15 years, and have found the most success with an evolutionary-based approach. I was able to overcome some challenging health problems using diet and lifestyle changes very much along the lines of CSF. In addition to health stuff, I also write for a food blog, and have penned some dark, “weir’d” fiction, too. I look forward to getting to know the CSF community!

Milk contains lactoferrin - but we don't recommend just going out and chugging milk to get it!

Lactoferrin. Sounds like an engine problem, doesn’t it? “Well, sonny, your problem is you’ve got lactoferrin buildup in your jimbedy-flange.” But it turns out lactoferrin couldn’t be more natural: it’s a protein, your body makes it, and it’s pretty darn important. So important that it’s one of the first things mothers pass to their newborn… Read More

It’s in everything from moisturizers, shampoos, and sunscreens, to conditioners to hairsprays, and even mascaras and lipsticks. They don’t hide it, either—they practically shout it at you on the… Read More

Magnesium and Acne – Why Your Skin Needs More Magnesium

Magnesium can help many of the underlying causes of acne.

Sad fact: if you’re reading this and you’re human, you’re probably magnesium deficient. (If you’re reading this and not human, you’re probably an alien with nutrient vats with squiggling life forms in them. Erm… you might be fine.) For the rest of us sentient beings the magnesium situation is grim: anywhere from 50% to 80%… Read More

Turmeric for Acne: Does Eating Turmeric Really Help Acne?

Can turmeric help acne? If so, what's the best form to use?

Good grief. Turmeric teas. Turmeric sauces. Turmeric pills. Turmeric pastes. Turmeric masks?? Seems like the Web is chock-a-block with turmeric remedies for just about everything. If you can think of an ailment, the Web says (in its best Greek dad voice): “Put some turmeric on it!” What gives? Well, people have been eating turmeric as… Read More

Probiotics and Acne: Do Probiotics Help Acne?

What's all the craze with probiotics? Do they actually help acne?

It seems crazy, doesn’t it? You’re researching acne and you end up on the question of probiotics. You’re thinking: I started with skin, and I ended up on… intestinal flora?? I mean, sure, we’ve all heard of these little critters. The “good guys” of the gut. Our bacteriological buddies. We want to feed them, help… Read More
